With all the recent laws and safety issues concerning phone use during driving, I have tried to do my best to obey the law and keep everyone and myself safe during my daily travels in my so-called “Office on Wheels”. I have  felt like I had this issue worked out with my fancy speaker phone and abilty to hear the person on the other line very clearly. I would even feel proud that I didn’t have the phone up to my ear as I have been seeing many drivers still doing!  Good for me!  Riiight!!!

I was following a client from the last house we were loooking at to their house in another town by way of a nice country drive. All back-road routes with many stop signs in between. I was behind their dark colored van and thought I had a chance to make a quick important call to another client since the country road was open with very little traffic on it.

Somewhere, I eventually found out, my clients made a right turn at a stop sign. I stopped, crossed the road and continued following a dark colored van to a nearby house.  We stopped and the passengers stayed in their van for a minute or two and I made another call while they were doing something. A man came out of the house and I started to think something was wrong and not adding up. I was still on the phone and the man who was a little preturbed asked  if I needed something and I said I was following so and so.   The people finally got out of  their van and to my surprise I realized I had followed a different van!

How did that happen? How could I have done that?  How was I distracted?   A little embarassing.  I guess I was in a deeper conversation than I should have been!

Lately, I’ve been trying to keep my hands and mind on the wheel!

Goes to show you can have your hands free but your mind has to be free to think also!
